A grooved reducer reduces the pipe size from a larger to a smaller bore (inner diameter).

This change intended to meet hydraulic flow requirements of the system or adapt to existing piping of a different size.

A reducer can also be used either as a nozzle or diffuser.

Usually liquid- or gas-tight, cover the otherwise open end of a pipe.
